Craig Raleigh grew up hunting and fishing in New York State and Ontario Canada. He has fished from the Merritt Dam in Cherry County, Nebraska to the Cumberland River in Nashville, Tennessee. His lifelong interest in everything outdoors garnered in him a deep respect and love for all things in nature. With a conservationist heart instilled in him by his father and grandfather, he lives for the chance to get outside and discover. He is a writer and author of "The Hunter's Way: A Guide to the Heart and Soul of Hunting" as well as two self-published books. With a keen photographic eye, he can sit in a tree from dawn to dusk, walk upstream for big Steelhead, hike the Niagara Gorge, or bike the St. Lawrence Seaway trail and tell you every detail.
For many years my writing took a hiatus, but some of the projects that I remember are things like speeches for the youth football league that I coached in, some letters to the editor and an over-the-top best man speech at my brother's wedding.
I've written some fiction stories based on personnel experience and memory. One of these days I'm going to share some of those things with you and your eyes are going to pop out of your head. They're the kind of stories that will embarrass my son some day!
My writing evolved from a child who liked to tell stories, to a young man who tried to be a poet, to a man who realized that, although he was no better than other writers, he was different than other writers and that couldn't make me happier.
I can remember many individual teachers that influenced me, but I do know that in my freshman year of high school, Miss Lanyon gave me the confidence to write anything at anytime and not to think about it, just write and create.
The writers I most admire are the story tellers: Hemingway, C. Bukowski, R. Carver, Flannery O'Conner, JRR Tolkien, Steinbeck etc
My favorite piece up to this point is "Gobbler" It tells a good story and has a nice wink at the end. Since that story, a piece called "I Know You" has become well received.
Now with the creation and release of "The Hunter's Way" my work to shed some light upon the hunt has begun! As hunting men and women we all have a cause: conserve the outdoor splendor and bounty for future generations. My work on this book is a labor of love that I cannot begin to give meaning to... yet.
